چکیده

Stress accompanies the life of humans and other organisms affecting various physiological processes predominately including the activation of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA), which results in an excessive stimulation of the adrenal glands and the release of catecholamines and glucocorticoids (1, 2). Stress of diverse etiology is a wellrecognized factor that impairs the integrity of gastrointestinal (GI) mucosa and leads to formation of microbleedings and JOURNAL OF PHYSIOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY 2016, 67, 2, 261-275

نقش محافظتی استروژن و پروژسترون بر بافت معدی به دنبال ایسکمی- رپرفیوژن معدی در موش‌های صحرایی نر

Background and Objective: Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury repeatedly occurs in situations such as surgery, hemorrhage, burns, trauma, and infection. It has also been found that females were more resistant than males, indicating that female sex hormones have a protective function. The aim of this study was to determine the role of estrogen, progesterone, and their combination in protecting the...

Interaction between selective cyclooxygenase inhibitors and capsaicin-sensitive afferent sensory nerves in pathogenesis of stress-induced gastric lesions. Role of oxidative stress.

Gastric microcirculation plays an important role in the maintenance of the mucosal gastric integrity and the mechanism of injury as well as providing protection to the gastric mucosa. Disturbances in the blood perfusion, through the microcapillaries within the gastric mucosa may result in the formation of mucosal damage. Acute gastric mucosal lesions constitute an important clinical problem. Or...

Cannabinoid CB1 Receptors Mediate the Gastroprotective Effect of Neurotensin

Objective(s) Several lines of evidence indicate that neuropeptides exhibit protective properties against gastroduodenal ulcers. Neurotensin, a gut-brain neuropeptide, is implicated in a number of physiological processes in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues including gastrointestinal tract. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the gastroprotective potential of either p...

Importance of brain-gut axis in the gastroprotection induced by gastric and remote preconditioning.

Limitation of the damage to the organs such as heart, liver, intestine, stomach and brain by an earlier brief complete occlusion of their arteries is defined as ischemic preconditioning (IP). No study so for has been undertaken to check whether brain-gut axis is involved in the gastroprotection exhibited by gastric IP or in that induced by repeated brief episodes of ischemia of remote organs su...

Neural aspects of ghrelin-induced gastroprotection against mucosal injury induced by noxious agents.

Ghrelin, identified in oxyntic mucosa has been recently implicated in the control of food intake and growth hormone (GH) release but whether this hormone can influence the gastric secretion and gastric mucosal integrity have been little studied. We compared the effects of intraperitoneal (i.p.) and intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) administration of ghrelin on gastric secretion in rats equipped ...
